Gov. Martinez Appoints Farmington Lawyer To 11th Judicial District

Office of the Governor

Gov. Susana Martinez has appointed Farmington lawyer Brad Dalley to serve as a judge for the 11th Judicial District.

The 11th Judicial District includes San Juan and McKinley counties.

The Daily Times reports that Dalley was among four applicants for the appointment to replace Judge William Birsdall, who has served as a judge since 1999.

A nominating committee of attorneys, judges and members of the public recommended Dalley and Chief Deputy District Attorney Brent Capshaw for the appointment, and Martinez chose Dalley.

The 44-year-old Dalley has practiced law since 1998. He's now in private practice but started his career in the public defender's office in San Juan County.

Dalley said he expects he will inherit Judge Karen Townsend's civil docket and that Townsend will take over Birdsall's criminal docket.
