Gov. Martinez Appoints Magistrate Judge

Office of the Governor

A state prosecutor has been appointed a magistrate judge in Torrance County by Gov. Susana Martinez.

Mateo "Matt" Page was named to the Torrance County Magistrate Court, filling a vacancy caused by the retirement of Steve Jones.

The governor's office said Thursday that Page has been an assistant district attorney in the 7th Judicial District, which covers Torrance, Socorro, Sierra and Catron counties.

Page received his law degree from the University of Washington in 2004, and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico in 2000. He previously was an assistant district attorney in the 2nd Judicial District of Bernalillo County and the 12th Judicial District of Lincoln and Otero counties.

Magistrate courts handle a wide variety of cases, including civil lawsuits, misdemeanors, drunken driving and traffic violations.
