Gov. Martinez Reappoints Parole Board Member

Republican Gov. Susana Martinez has reappointed a retired Bernalillo County District Attorney's office employee to the state Parole Board.

Verna Morris of Albuquerque will serve a term expiring on June 30, 2019. The 15-member board has the power to grant or deny parole for adult offenders.

Morris joined the Parole Board in 2007 during former Gov. Bill Richardson's administration.

She retired from the Second Judicial District Attorney's office in 2007 as a victim advocate coordinator. The governor's office said that Morris had worked in the prosecutor's office for 30 years.

Martinez was the district attorney in Dona Ana County before taking office as governor in 2011.
