Governor Plans To Sign Bill On Veterans Benefits

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Gov. Susana Martinez plans to sign legislation that will extend state benefits for veterans to more National Guard and Reserve personnel.

The governor's office said Martinez is scheduled to sign the legislation at a ceremony Wednesday at the National Guard headquarters near Santa Fe.

Under a bill passed by the Legislature, National Guard and Reserve members who complete six years of service will be considered veterans and eligible for state benefits, such as a property tax break.

Military personnel currently must serve on active duty to be considered veterans and eligible for certain state benefits.
