Gravestone Donated For Albuquerque Abuse Victim

A headstone carver is donating his services to the family of a 9-year-old Albuquerque boy who died after his mother allegedly kicked him to death.  Adam Edwards says he is making a headstone so people have a place to go remember Omaree Varela.

Edwards says the boy's aunt and uncle picked out a headstone that will be engraved with a football helmet and a basketball because of his love of sports.

Synthia Varela-Casaus was indicted on various charges last month in connection with Omaree's December death.

Two officers have been placed on administrative leave after it was discovered that they left the boy's home long before reporting that they'd finish responding to a 911 call made from there.
