Groundbreaking Next Week For Las Cruces Dam Restoration

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Thursday, Nov. 29 for the Las Cruces Dam Environmental Restoration Project.  The City of Las Cruces and Army Corps of Engineers have been working together to modify and improve the Las Cruces Dam to remove sediment, repair damage caused by wind erosion and protect the native wildlife and vegetation in the immediate area.

The project area is located directly behind the Las Cruces Dam, east of I-25, and is situated on approximately 700 acres of flood pool, maintenance roads, and right-of-way for the outfall channel of the dam.

The $1.6 million project is scheduled to be completed summer of 2013.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be at 2 p.m. at the south end of the Las Cruces Dam, across from Laguna Shopping Center.
