Hatch Plans Purchase of BLM Land

Las Cruces, NM – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Las Cruces District Office will prepare an amendment and associated Environmental Assessment (EA) of the 1993 Mimbres Resource Management Plan for possible disposal of public land in Doña Ana County, New Mexico.

The plan amendment would allow for the disposal of about 339.89 acres of BLM land in a direct land sale to the Village of Hatch by changing the designation of these lands from “retention lands” to “disposal lands.”  The land would be used as part of the Village of Hatch’s industrial park and would allow the small community the ability to enhance their economic opportunities and provide for community expansion.  The Village of Hatch’s 50-acre industrial park is fully occupied by an onion packing facility and newly constructed solar energy facility.

The public is invited to provide scoping comments to identify any relevant issues that should be considered in the EA for the plan amendment.  A Notice of Intent (NOI) was published in the Federal Register on June 13, 2013, which initiates the 30-day public scoping period.  Scoping comments will be accepted until July16, 2013.  Comments can be emailed to: blm_nm_lcdo_comments@blm.gov, faxed to 575-525-4412 Attention: Kendrah Penn, or mailed or delivered to the BLM Las Cruces District Office, 1800 Marquess Street, Las Cruces, NM 88005.
