“The Heart of Las Cruces: The History of St. Genevieve’s Church”

  Rosemary Leyva and Dawn Santiago will present “The Heart of Las Cruces: The History of St. Genevieve’s Church” at this month’s History Notes lecture at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 14 at Branigan Cultural Center, 501 North Main St.

Born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Rosemary Leyva has been a member of St. Genevieve’s Church since birth. She grew up in Las Cruces and obtained both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in bilingual education from NMSU. She taught elementary school for 26 years in the Gadsden School District. She is presently the president of the St. Genevieve Historical Society and has been a member since the society was founded in 2008.

This lecture is part of the Latino Americans: 500 years of history programming series. Latino Americans: 500 Years of History has been made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.

History Notes, monthly lectures on historical topics, take place on the second Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. Lectures are free and open to the public. Please check our webpage or Facebook for a full listing of these and other Branigan Cultural Center public programs.
