Heinrich Presents Service Medals To New Mexico Vietnam War Veteran

  Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) presented nine medals, including the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star Medal, and an Air Medal to U.S. Army veteran Stephen Bailey. Senator Heinrich's office assisted Mr. Bailey, who served more than 10 years in the Army, obtain medals he earned, but never received, for his service in the Vietnam War. Mr. Bailey was joined by his wife, Kathy Bailey, and members of his family.

"Stephen Bailey deserves recognition for the sacrifices he made. He deserves the medals he earned, but most of all he deserves our utmost respect and appreciation for his service to our country," said Sen. Heinrich. 

The medal presentation and tribute to Mr. Bailey's service took place at the University of New Mexico (UNM) and included the Presentation of the Colors by the UNM Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC).

Senator Heinrich awarded Mr. Bailey with the following:

  • Purple Heart; 
  • Bronze Star Medal; 
  • Air Medal; 
  • Army Commendation Medal; 
  • Good Conduct Medal; 
  • National Defense Service Medal;
  • Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars; 
  • Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon; and 
  • Expert Badge
