High School Art Exhibit In Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES---Featuring everything from an elaborate paper mâché sculptures to detailed animal portraits, the Annual LCPS High School Art Exhibition is on display now through Friday, April 21, in the LCPS Administration Building lobby, 505 South Main Street, Suite 249. In recognition of the artist’s work, an opening reception for the exhibition will be held on Wednesday, March 8, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Administration Building lobby.

“The quality of artwork is excellent, and it is inspiring to see just how much these young artists have accomplished in their high school visual arts programs,” said Cynthia Smith, a visual arts teacher at Highland and Sunrise Elementary Schools.

The exhibition includes 43 pieces of artwork, some of which are available for sale, created by talented artists from all four LCPS comprehensive high schools: Centennial, Las Cruces, Mayfield and Oñate.

The artwork for the exhibition was selected by a panel of visual arts instructors who selected works for the exhibition based on their level of craftsmanship, creative and knowledgeable application of the elements of art and the principles of art design, composition and construction, and ability to be displayed to audiences of all ages, Smith said.
