High school's Athletics Building Damaged By Water Line Break

A water pipe break will prove costly to Albuquerque's public school system.

The overnight break resulted in accumulation of several inches of water that damaged the main gym's flooring in Eldorado High School's athletic building as well as locker rooms, offices and other spaces.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that damage is preliminarily estimated at up to $600,000 and that only part of the cost will be covered by insurance.

Eldorado Principal Martin Sandoval says some summer physical education programs may have to move to other schools but that there won't be much interruption of spring sports because they're largely played outdoors.

A custodian discovered the damage Tuesday morning.
