High Speed Chase Ends In Arrest

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies assisted the Anthony Police Department in the arrest of a Canutillo man after he was seen speeding away in a truck that had been reported stolen minutes earlier.

Just after 9 a.m. Sunday morning, Anthony Police were called to the 1000 block of State Line Road after a man said his 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck had been stolen from his yard. Anthony Police notified other law enforcement officers in the area to be on the lookout for the truck, which was spotted moments later in the 800 block of Polk Street.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived to assist the Anthony officer, at which time 31-year-old Jesus Sandoval entered the driver’s side of the truck and began to speed away, leading law enforcement on a pursuit through a residential area where speeds reached up to 50 miles per hour.

Sandoval lost control of the truck near the corner of Clark and Polk Street, driving through a chain link fence and into the front yard of a residence. Sandoval was able to drive out of the yard and continued the chase down Clark Street, where he reportedly drove through four posted stop signs.

The pursuit ended when Sandoval tried to drive the truck across a ditch bank near Washington Street where he lost control of the vehicle again. As Sandoval tried once again to flee from law enforcement, he ran the stolen truck into the Anthony officer’s patrol unit.

No one was injured during the incident.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Sandoval, charging him with criminal damage to property, possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing from a law enforcement officer and receiving stolen property.

Sandoval was transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center.
