Hit-and-Run Suspect Wanted by Las Cruces Police

  A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the driver suspected of Saturday’s hit-and-run that injured a 29-year-old man.

Andrew Aguilar, 25 of 2230 Dona Ana Rd., is charged with a third-degree felony count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The 29-year-old victim was transported to University Medical Center of El Paso shortly after the crash. He remained hospitalized Wednesday in stable condition at UMC.

Las Cruces Police learned that Aguilar was driving his girlfriend’s green Dodge Durango shortly after4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16, with the 34-year-old woman as a passenger, when they spotted her ex-boyfriend near the 1300 block of north Solano Drive.

Witnesses told police the 29-year-old man drove into the parking lot of a nearby car wash and got out of the vehicle while carrying a baseball bat. Detectives learned that Aguilar stopped the Durango in the roadway as the two men stared at each other. Witnesses said Aguilar then revved the Durango’s engine and sped forward, over a curb and into the parking lot, striking the 29-year-old man.

The Durango fled the area but was followed by a witness who called 911. Aguilar pulled over at 1900 N. Solano Dr. and ran from the vehicle before police arrived. The 34-year-old owner of the Durango remained in the vehicle and was questioned by police. No charges have been filed against her.

Aguilar is 5-feet-10-inches tall and weighs approximately 180 pounds.
