State officials have fined a Hobbs day care center after a crying child was found unattended outside.
The Hobbs News-Sun reports a report obtained by the newspaper shows the state's Children, Youth and Families Department fined Shining Stars Learning Center $3,000 following an investigation.
The department received a report a woman was driving by Shining Stars and noticed a young boy "screaming and crying" on the sidewalk outside in July.
The report says investigators discovered the child was part of a group of children left unattended on the playground. He had moved a toy car to a fence and used it to jump over.
According to the report, Shining Stars also was violating CYFD regulations for teacher-children ratios.
Shining Stars Manager Mary Rodriguez declined to comment.
