Hobbs Moves To Ban 12 Forms Of 'Spice'

Officials in Hobbs are looking to ban more forms of the synthetic drug known as "spice."

The Hobbs News-Sun reports that city commission voted this week to move ahead in adding 12 new compounds of the synthetic marijuana to the list of 32 chemical compounds already outlawed within the city limits.

The synthetic drug is being sold illegally at smoke shops across Hobbs and police have been waging a war against the sellers of this new drug for more than a year.

Spice is the common name for chemically treated herbs that mimic the effects of marijuana.

Efren Cortez, assistant city attorney, says the amendment to the municipal code will help the city in its fight against spice.
