A 29-year-old female detainee at the Doña Ana County Detention Center jumped Friday morning from a second-floor railing in a cellblock at the Doña Ana County Detention Center, landing first on a table and then on the concrete floor below.
Officers responded immediately to the incident, which occurred at 9:55 a.m. Shortly after 10:30 a.m., Stephanie Sepulveda was transported by ambulance with an officer escort to Memorial Medical Center.
Sepulveda suffered multiple injuries, none of which appear to be life-threatening.
Mental-health counseling is being made available to witnesses.
Sepulveda has been in the facility since Jan. 22, when she was booked for a probation violation. Sepulveda has 10 prior bookings on charges ranging from aggravated DWI and assault on a police officer to resisting arrest and battery against a household member.
Doña Ana County Manager Julia T. Brown said a review is underway to determine whether additional railings or other measures should be installed at the jail to minimize jumping.
In July of 2014, Laura Delhierro, 24, also jumped from a second-floor railing in the facility and required hospitalization to recover.
