Huge Police Settlement

By KRWG News

Albuquerque – The city of Albuquerque has agreed to pay the family of a man fatally shot by a since-fired police officer nearly $1 million.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that the city on Monday agreed to pay the family of Roderick Jones $950,000 to settle a wrongful death suit.

Jones was a 42-year-old former Air Force officer and father of seven who had been working as a security guard at Kirtland Air Force Base. Officer Brandon Carr was investigating a suspected burglary when he shot him in the back in November 2009. Jones wasn't armed.

Police Chief Ray Schultz fired Carr 10 months later and said the shooting was unjustified and violated policies. Deputy District Attorney Gary Cade is weighing criminal charges.
