Human Remains Identified As Las Cruces Man

The body of a man discovered Oct. 10 just west of Las Cruces has been identified by Doña Ana County Sheriff’s detectives, who are now asking the public for any information that might help in the investigation.

According to detectives, the body of Robert Reed, 61, was dumped in the 4500 block of Picacho near Fairacres Road. They described the remains – which were wrapped in a tarp – as “severely decomposed.” Since the investigation began, detectives have learned the remains could have been dumped there as early as mid-August.

Two landscape workers who were clearing weeds in the area discovered the body and alerted authorities.

Reed’s remains were sent to the University of New Mexico Office of the Medical Examiner for positive identification. Since then, sheriff’s department investigators and intelligence analysts have tried to locate next of kin, but have been unsuccessful.

Detectives have learned that Reed, who lived off West Fleming Avenue, frequented Branigan Library and also walked with a cane.

Anyone who might have known Reed or has any information that might be helpful is asked to call the detective assigned to the case at (575) 525-8810.
