I-10 Closures This Week

On Sunday, April 2nd, GO 10 will be changing the way you drive on I-10 East. On the morning of April 3rd, I-10 Eastbound drivers will find themselves merging onto I-10’s new CD lanes (collector-distributor lanes) near the Buena Vista area.

Another change will be for drivers coming from Doniphan Drive who want to enter I-10 East via Sunland Park Drive. Their usual entrance ramp (the depressed underpass ramp) will be closed permanently. Drivers will still be able to enter I-10 East from Sunland Park Drive by following the detour signs in place. The permanent closure of this underpass ramp is necessary while the contractor begins to take-on the monumental task of transforming the entire I-10/Sunland interchange. A rendering of the new interchange is attached (PDF).

·        The Sunland Park Entrance Ramp Underpass to I-10 Eastbound (the ramp from the Doniphan side of I-10) will close for the long term.

Details continue to develop for this closure.

WHY IS THIS CLOSURE NECESSARY?

Crews will be re-striping the lanes on I-10 Eastbound, which will result in traffic being shifted to the right and onto the brand-new CD lanes (collector-distributor lanes). The long-term closure of theSunland Park Entrance Ramp Underpass to I-10 Eastbound (the entrance ramp from the Doniphan side of I-10) is necessary as crews begin to completely transform the I-10/Sunland Interchange. Despite the ramp closure, motorists will still be able to enter I-10 Eastbound from Sunland Park Drive by turning right at the Sunland/Paisano traffic light. Detour signs will be in place. A closure map is not available at this time. Closure details continue to develop.
