A San Juan County spokesman says four inmates at the county detention center attacked guards who were trying to break up a fight.
The incident took place on Sunday after guards responded to a fight between two inmates. When they arrived the fight had ended but a third inmate attacked a guard.
Three more inmates began attacking the guard, and other guards struggled to contain them. Police officers from Farmington and from the county sheriff's office also assisted.
One guard suffered from a fractured eye socket and others sustained minor injuries.
The inmates face several charges of assault, battery and resisting police. An investigation is ongoing.
