Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra meets with New Mexico State University Alumna, Irene Oliver-Lewis, 2017 NMSU Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient for the College of Arts and Sciences. 50 years ago she was a freshman at NMSU and worked at the Alumni office. As a three-time Aggie, she earned her Associates in 1974, Bachelor of Individualized Studies in 1975, and Master of Arts in 1978. She is one of six Distinguished Alumni Award Recipients selected from each academic college and one international alumnus who have distinguished themselves and brought honor and distinction to their Alma Mater.
Each Distinguished Alumni will have a reception in their honor. Irene Oliver-Lewis is extremely honored and cordially invites her friends and colleagues to her reception on Friday, October 27th at 3:30 pm at Kent Hall Museum Courtyard, 1280 East University Ave. in Las Cruces. RSVP’s are requested to email@example.com or 575-646-5886. In addition, all recipients will be participating in the annual Homecoming festivities, and will be presented their award at the Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner on October 27th. Oliver-Lewis has remained committed to NMSU by serving on the KRWG Patron Board, the Art Department Council, and as a loyal donor, and is a true leader in furthering the significance of the arts. In 1995 she was the artistic producer and founder of the Court Youth Center, an arts-based youth program in Las Cruces, and in 2004 she started Alma d’Arte Charter Arts High School. Although Irene is now retired, she remains busier than ever by assisting with the development of a film industry in Southern New Mexico with NMSU’s Creative Media Institute, Doña Ana Community College, NMSU’s Arrowhead Center, and is working on creating an Arts and Culture District with the City of Las Cruces.
