Isabella Solis announces Candidacy for County Commission District 4

Commentary:  Isabella Solis has announced her candidacy for Doña Ana County Commission in District 4.  She is seeking the Democratic Party nomination. The District 4 seat is currently held by Wayne Hancock, a Democrat, who was elected in 2012, and serves as commission chair.

“The people of East Mesa have asked for someone to advocate for their needs.  Our district needs a fresh working vision.  I want to be your next county commissioner.”

Isabella, who earned a bachelor's degree from Northwestern State University, has worked for the federal government for nine years.  Her service includes the State of Louisiana for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) providing disaster recovery following Hurricane Katrina.

“My experience put me directly in front of families who lost their homes and personal property,” said Solis.  “We moved them into Direct Housing while they began the painful process of rebuilding.  Working disaster recovery and relief is immediate response-driven because families cannot wait for undependable services.”

Isabella served with the FEMA headquarters/Logistics Branch and the Government Sales Services responsible for mobile units following the transition of families back to permanent housing.

Isabella worked with Tierra del Sol, a non-profit organization that received FEMA donated housing units for qualifying families following the conclusion of disaster services.  She also served the Mayor of Hatch, NM during natural disaster flooding, by coordinating various voluntary agencies.

Isabella was appointed to serve the City of Las Cruces as a member of the City of Las Cruces Retired Senior Volunteer Program advisory board.  She is also a member of the Ocotillo Institute Empowerment Congress and served on the steering committee for the communities for health.

Her family was raised and educated in Las Cruces.  Her father was in the cotton business for many years and she understands what it takes to operate a business.  Isabella is married to Richard Solis, a native of Las Cruces who served in the United States Marine Corp.  He is retired from New Mexico Southern Facility, and currently serves as an officer at the Federal Court House.

“Our county is in need of more transparency and better communication,” said Solis.  “Our government deserves a higher level of integrity and I am your candidate who will discharge the duties of office in doing so.”

Isabella has pledged to conduct her campaign in compliance with State law.

“Our fathers and grandfathers fought gallantly for our country and our right to choose,” said Solis.  “Let’s honor them by registering to vote and participating on Election Day.”

“Doña Ana needs a new face and a new perspective on county government.”
