Issues And Answers: The Disappearing Middle Class? Airs Tonight At 7 On KRWG-TV

KRWG-TV presents a local special tonight on the declining middle class.

In the last 15 years, every state has seen a decline in the middle class. That’s according to a Pew Charitable trust study based on Census Bureau data.  New Mexico and a number of other states saw about a five percent decline in middle class households.  Only Wisconsin did worse with a decline of about six percent.

Tonight at 7…we examine the issue on KRWG-TV’s Issues And Answers…The Disappearing Middle Class?   Our guests include Rio Grande Foundation President Paul Gessing and New Mexico Fair Lending Coalition Co-chair Steve Fischmann, who’s also a former state legislator.

Gessing and Fischmann disagree on some issues…for instance, Fischmann supports an increase in the minimum wage…Gessing is against the idea.  But on other issues they agree…including their opposition to New Mexico’s economic incentives that favor certain industries while ignoring others.  An example….Gessing and then Fischmann decry the $50 million dollar a year subsidy for commercial TV and film production.

Tonight’s program includes questions from a studio audience on many other issues….and an in-depth report on New Mexico’s incentives designed to attract new jobs.

Issues and Answers:  The Disappearing Middle Class? airs tonight at 7 on KRWG Public Television.
