Jason Marks Abandons Race For NM Attorney General

Former Public Regulation Commissioner Jason Marks says he's dropping out of the race for the Democratic nomination for attorney general.

Marks said Thursday his exploratory campaign since January has been unable to raise enough money for him to be competitive in next year's election.

State Auditor Hector Balderas, a Democrat, reported in April that his campaign for attorney general had raised about $240,000. A state campaign finance disclosure showed that Marks had received contributions of nearly $23,000.

Marks served on the Public Regulation Commission from 2005 to 2012, representing an Albuquerque area district. The commission regulates utilities, telecommunications and transportation companies such as taxis and ambulances.

Two-term Democratic Attorney General Gary King can't seek re-election and plans to run for governor next year against Republican Gov. Susana Martinez.
