Jobs for CMI & Community with proposed Soundstage

August 7, 2015 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, Emily Guerra meets with New Mexico State University’s Creative Media Institute (CMI) Department Head, Amy Lanasa, and CMI Adjunct Professor, Algernon D’Ammassa, theatrical actor and producer. CMI prepares students for the 21st century in Digital Filmmaking and Animation & Visual Effects, as well as game design. Last year “Animation Career Review” ranked CMI as one of the top 10 animation and game design schools in the Southwest.

CMI was formed in 2005 with the help of Mark Medoff, Tony Award-winning playwright, screenwriter, multi-honored filmmaker, director, actor and longtime professor of English, theatre arts and film at NMSU. Nine years ago Medoff invited Lanasa to help with the formation of CMI, and she recently became CMI’s Department Head.

D’Ammassa has taught theatre classes at NMSU prior to joining CMI in 2013 as an Adjunct Professor. As part of the CMI’s bachelor’s degree in digital filmmaking and animation, he teaches “Principles of Storytelling Across all Media.”

Lanasa says that she is excited about a recent proposal to the City of Las Cruces for the construction of a new sound stage that can attract the film industry to our community. She says it could bring a huge economic development to Las Cruces, not only for local filmmakers and CMI students, but also for construction workers, film extras, dentists, doctors and other support jobs as needed.
