Judge "Troubled" By Mustang Roundup Plan

A federal judge in Reno says he shares some concerns raised by wild horse protection groups but it will take him a few days to decide whether to grant the temporary restraining order they are seeking to block a government roundup of thousands of mustangs in northern Nevada.

U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks told lawyers for the Bureau of Land Management Monday he's "troubled" by the agency's reliance on an environmental assessment conducted in 2010 to justify gathering up more than 300 horses in the Pine Nut Range southeast of Carson City.

Horse advocates say the previous BLM review ignores more modern scientific research about the potential harm a fertility drug can cause to wild horse herds.

Hicks says he hopes to rule by the middle of the week.
