Julian Castro: I'm not being vetted for vice president

Former HUD Secretary Julian Castro

U.S. Housing Secretary Julian Castro says he isn't being vetted as a potential running mate for Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Castro deflected questions Friday while in his hometown of San Antonio about whether he would accept an invitation from Clinton to become her vice presidential running mate. The 41-year-old former San Antonio mayor says he doesn't think an offer is "going to happen."

Speculation has followed Castro since President Barack Obama made him the youngest member of his Cabinet in 2014. Other rumored possible vice presidential contenders include Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia and Labor Secretary Thomas Perez.

Castro and his twin brother, Congressman Joaquin Castro, are headlining the Texas Democratic Convention that started Friday. Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was also in San Antonio on Friday for a fundraiser.
