Ken McQueen Now Secretary of NM Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department

Commentary: SANTA FE – Today, the New Mexico State Senate today confirmed Ken McQueen as Secretary of the Energy, Minerals & Natural Resources Department (EMNRD).  Governor Martinez selected McQueen to lead the department last December.

“I am honored and humbled that Governor Martinez and the New Mexico Senate has confidence in my experience,” said Secretary McQueen. “The last two months have shown me I lead a dynamic team committed to positioning New Mexico as a national leader in energy and natural resources.”

Among Secretary McQueen’s first priorities is developing the Energy Roadmap project, a major piece of the Governor’s Energy Policy and Implementation Plan that supports partnerships and stakeholder involvement with energy producers in oil and gas, coal, nuclear, electric and renewable energy industries.  McQueen is also Chair of the Rio Grande Trail Commission, another priority to bring state, local, tribal and private stakeholders together to establish a trail spanning 500 miles across the state from Colorado to Texas.

An oil and gas executive with more than 37 years of domestic and international energy experience, McQueen most recently served as the vice president of WPX Energy.  Earlier in his career, he was a joint venture engineer at Vintage Petroleum Inc., and a petroleum engineer at Amerade Hess Corp.  He has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Tulsa’s School of Petroleum Engineering and on the University of Tulsa School of Petroleum Engineering Advisory Board.  He is a former Farmington resident and holds a Bachelor of Science in petroleum engineering from the University of Tulsa.
