King: Dona Ana County Scandal Would Bring "A Tear To The Eyes Of Our Founding Fathers"

“It’s like peeling an onion that makes you cry,” says Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Gary King of the news that Susana Martinez has more skeletons in her closet that are coming to light, layer after layer.

King adds, “Now, it is reported that Martinez's handpicked District Attorney has destroyed possible incriminating records from when Martinez was D.A. - including hard drives that went missing and mandatory tape backups which appear to be erased. We may never know what was in those records - but their destruction alone raises new, serious questions about Martinez's work as well as that of the people she's put in positions of power.”

The reports of missing or destroyed records is bad enough, but an investigation report by current Las Cruces District Attorney Mark D’Antonio also shows that Martinez has had a long history of trying to hide the ball from inquisitive New Mexicans.  From the time she was the local DA to today, as Governor---Martinez has shown that she and her political co-conspirator Jay McCleskey attempt to distract the public and media by accusing others of wrongdoing.

Gary King says destruction of state records is illegal, therefore, Governor Martinez and her successor in the Las Cruces District Attorney's Office have some explaining to do.

D’Antonio’s report on his investigation also discovered that during her first campaign for governor, “A former [Martinez] staffer recalls the campaign on multiple occasions sending the license plate numbers of cars believed to be used by opposition trackers to an investigator in Martinez’s DA office who had access to law enforcement databases.”

“These reports really are sad and reflect badly on todays state of politics in New Mexico, and indeed the whole country” says King.  “I really believe this news would bring a tear to the eyes of our founding fathers.”
