New Mexico Attorney General Gary King says no criminal charges will be filed against embattled former Secretary of State Mary Herrera, bringing to a close a three-year investigation.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that King sent a letter to Herrera earlier this month saying he concluded there wasn't a sufficient basis to proceed with a criminal investigation.
Herrera was accused by former top officials in her office of wrongdoing, including ordering employees to collect signatures for her re-election campaign.
Herrera says she's happy the investigation over. She says the allegations were politically motivated and hurt her career.
The Democrat lost her re-election bid in 2010 and says she was passed over for an elections-related job in Georgia because of the allegations and the investigation.
