King Questions Governor's Use Of Campaign Funds

KRWG News – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) Democratic Attorney General Gary King questions whether Republican Gov. Susana Martinez properly used campaign money for radio ads pressuring legislators to support her proposal to stop driver's licenses for illegal immigrants.

King's office released a letter Thursday taking issue with a ruling by GOP Secretary of State Dianna Duran that state law allows the governor to use campaign funds for the advertising.

Chief Deputy Attorney General Albert Lama asked Duran to reconsider her legal decision.

Duran said Thursday her office hasn't received the letter but she stood by her ruling.

Lama said the ads appeared to be lobbying rather than campaign expenses. He said state law allows legislators, but not the governor, to use campaign money for some expenses related to their duties while in office.
