Knife-Wielding Suspect Threatens Driver Before Stealing Pickup

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that helps identify the man suspected of holding a knife to a pickup owner’s neck and forcibly stealing the vehicle Thursday morning.

Detectives learned that at around 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, a 67-year-old man drove his 2012 Dodge Ram pickup to the McDonald’s restaurant at 4810 Mesa Grande Dr. After the driver parked and got out of his pickup, he was accosted by a knife-wielding man who threatened him and demanded the keys to the truck.

The victim was not injured. After obtaining the keys, the suspect drove away heading westbound on Highway 70.

New Mexico State Police located the vehicle heading south on Interstate 10 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver, however, led police on a vehicle pursuit that crossed the state line into Texas. Officers lost sight of the vehicle somewhere near Sunland Park, N.M.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man wearing a gray hoodie.

The pickup is a silver four-door 2012 Dodge Ram with running boards. The pickup has a New Mexico Disabled Veteran license plate number of DV475F. An onlooker witnessed the incident and snapped photos of the pickup as the suspect fled from the McDonald’s.

Anyone with information that can help identify the suspect, or anyone who knows the whereabouts of the pickup, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip by text message to CRIMES (274637), keyword LCTIPS.

The Crime Stoppers number and text messaging services are operational 24 hours a day and you do not have to give your name to collect a reward.
