KRWG Part Of National Project To Boost Local Journalism

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – KRWG is part of local news initiative announced on Thursday in Washington D-C.

Public radio and TV stations across the country will receive more than $10 million dollars over the next two years to boost local news coverage.

The money comes from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting .the organization that allocates federal funding for the system.

At individual stations like KRWG, the CPB investments are small, enough to pay for a full time reporter at each station.

But when you consider that news staffs at local stations often only include a few people, the impact will be significant.

KRWG is joining with local stations across the Southwest to report on border issues.

Nationally, NPR and PBS stations will collaborate on covering key issues, including immigration, agribusiness and health care. They will jointly hire about 50 multimedia journalists nationwide.

KRWG expects to have a new border reporter in place by this Fall.
