Las Cruces Animal Control Officers Now Certified Animal Cruelty Investigators

A pair of Las Cruces Animal Control officers have completed intensive training to become certified animal cruelty investigators.

Animal Control officers Abraham Flores and Juan Valles completed the National Animal Control and Humane Academy’s Levels I, II and III and are now certified animal cruelty investigators.

Flores and Valles now have the formal training required to investigate a possible felony animal abuse cases and turn evidence over to the Las Cruces Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Section for prosecution.

Code 3 Associates and National Animal Care and Control Association (NACA) formed a partnership to deliver a new higher standard in animal care and cruelty investigation training. The partnership streamlined and set the standard for the way animal control, law enforcement and humane officers receive training by combining Code 3’s Cruelty Investigators Academy with the NACA’s National Animal Control Officer Training Academy.

The National Animal Control and Humane Officer Academy (NACHO) provides law enforcement and animal welfare/animal control personnel with training that equips them with the tools needed, not only for duties in animal control but also animal cruelty investigations.

The NACHO Academy, consisting of 120 hours of training, provides instruction in most aspects of animal control and animal cruelty investigations.

Animal Control is part of the Las Cruces Police Department’s Codes Enforcement Section.
