Las Cruces Burn Ban Rescinded

Enough rain appears to have fallen in recent weeks to allow the Las Cruces Fire Department to rescind fire restrictions that were imposed on June 6.

The most recent drought index released by the National Weather Service shows marked improvement and indicates that the city of Las Cruces is no longer experiencing severe or extreme drought conditions.

The new order rescinding the limitations on open burning takes effect at noon Tuesday, July 15.

The Las Cruces Fire Department can reinstate fire restrictions if climatic conditions, drought, fire danger or other factors present a fire threat to personal property or public safety.

City residents may obtain burn permits at any fire station within Las Cruces. The Las Cruces Fire Department encourages residents to follow all rules and regulations pertaining to open burning within the city.
