Las Cruces Catholic School Students Donate Food to Needy Families

Students of Las Cruces Catholic School, which consists of Holy Cross Elementary and St. Mary’s School, donated Thanksgiving Day meals on Wednesday, November 18th to dozens of area needy families.

The baskets were donated to Casa de Peregrinos which consisted of various items for families for the Thanksgiving holiday. Students put together 39 baskets which consisted of turkeys, vegetables, stuffing, biscuits, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes and boxed desserts.

“We are so tremendously proud and blessed to be able to do this every year,” says Principal Connie Limon. “These donations from our students, parents and teachers will now provide meals to many in our community who otherwise wouldn’t have a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal.”

Casa de Peregrinos is an emergency food bank serving Las Cruces and Dona Ana County. The organization serves as a safety link for residents unable to purchase nutritious food due to either emergencies or unforeseen personal crises. Nearly 25% of residents in our area live below the poverty level.
