Las Cruces City Facilities Designated as Cooling Stations

With recent daytime temperatures at or above 100 degrees and the National Weather Service predicting highs of 109 tomorrow and 108 on Friday, the City of Las Cruces has designated five facilities as cooling stations for the elderly, other high-risk residents, and the general public. A cooling station is a place that offers temporary shelter from the heat.

The locations and hours of operation are:

  • Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell St.

Monday through Friday 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  (575/528-3000)

  • Henry R. Benavidez Community Center ,1045 McClure Rd.

Monday through Friday 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (575/541-2005)

  • Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Ave.

Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (575/541-2563)

  • Munson Center, 975 S. Mesquite St.

Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (575/541-3000)

  • Sage Café, 6121 Reynolds Dr.

Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (575/528-3151)

Cooling stations provide immediate, temporary relief during periods of extreme heat. They are not intended as overnight emergency shelters.
