Las Cruces – Las Cruces City Manager Terrence Moore has accepted in principal, an offer to become the next city manager of Morgantown, West Virginia.
Moore, who has been Las Cruces city manager since February 2005, will remain in his current position through December 31st. He is tentatively scheduled to begin as Morgantown city manager in January 2011.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for me both personally and professionally," Moore said. "After having spent nearly six wonderful years as Las Cruces city manager, it was time for me to advance my professional career, and Morgantown is the perfect place for me to do that."
As Morgantown city manager, Moore will serve as chief administrative officer. Morgantown has a council/manager form of government, similar to Las Cruces.
Many large scale projects were completed during Moore's tenure in Las Cruces, including the new City Hall, the Las Cruces Regional Aquatic Center and the Las Cruces Convention Center. Substantial work has also been completed on the reconstruction of Downtown Las Cruces, to include the newly-opened La Placita and the section of Main Street between Griggs and Las Cruces Avenues.
Assistant City Manager Robert Garza will serve as interim city manager until the city council decides on how to proceed with the naming of a permanent replacement.
