Las Cruces Codes Enforcement Receives New Bicycles

The Las Cruces Police Department’s Codes Enforcement section now has 16 new bicycles and 50 new helmets that will be used at the many bike rodeos sponsored by the department.

The new bicycles, ranging in size from tricycle to adult, were purchased through a grant from the Healthy Communities Initiative. The Planning and Revitalization section of Las Cruces’ Community Development department was responsible for obtaining the necessary funding.

Codes Enforcement officers conduct an average of 26 bike rodeos each year when LCPD’s Mobile Operations Center is activated for community engagement, at various grade school functions throughout the year and during the annual National Night Out event. The bike rodeos teach children how to safely ride bicycles and how to perform safety checks on their bicycles.

The bike rodeos are always held free of charge.

Codes Enforcement plans to give away half of the new helmets to children who are in need. The helmets were purchased locally from Outdoor Adventures while the bicycles were purchased from Walmart. Employees of the Walmart store also assisted by assembling the new bicycles.
