Las Cruces DWI Patrols Set For April

The Las Cruces Police Department will conduct at least two sobriety checkpoints and four saturation patrols within city limits during the month of April.

Sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols are intended to reduce and eliminate the number of motorists who drive while intoxicated.

Police also plan additional traffic safety activities in April including special operations in support of the city’s cell phone ordinance and the Operation Buckle Down seatbelt enforcement.

Drivers are reminded that it is illegal to operate or manipulate an electronic device – such as a cell phone – within city limits unless doing so is completely hands-free.

Las Cruces Police encourage those who plan on consuming alcoholic beverages to use a designated driver – someone who will not be drinking alcoholic beverages – for their transportation needs.

Anyone in need of a safe ride home on Fridays, Saturdays or holidays between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 3 a.m. can take advantage of Project Home, a program sponsored by Dona Ana County and Las Cruces Shuttle and Taxi. One or two people can receive a $5 taxi ride home from anywhere within Dona Ana County. For up to four people the fee is $10. Grant funding pays the balance of transportation charges.

For Project Home taxi service call (575) 524-TAXI.
