Las Cruces Fire Department Hosts Physical Ability Test for Upcoming Academy

The Las Cruces Fire Department, in preparation for its upcoming academy, is offering a Physical Ability Test (PAT) July 25 to let prospective candidates assess their stamina and agility skills before applying for a position.

The fire department’s next academy is planned for February 2016. Applications will be accepted Aug. 3 through Sept. 2.

The PAT will be held Saturday, July 25, at the Las Cruces Fire Training Tower at Fire Station 7, 9201 Zia Blvd. On-site registration is from 8-10 a.m. and the physical ability tests will be performed on a first-come basis. Candidates should dress appropriately – athletic shoes and apparel are suggested – and be prepared to complete the test anytime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The fire department will also host a recruit workshop from 1-4 p.m. July 25 at City Hall, 700 N. Main St. Prospective applicants are encouraged to attend.

LCFD registered 40 prospective candidates at its first PAT held July 11. Most candidates completed the PAT before noon that day.
