Las Cruces – The Las Cruces Fire Department is looking for motivated, committed and customer service-oriented men and women to become firefighters for the City of Las Cruces. Preferences are given to candidates who submit proof of at least 65 college credits and/or current NM Emergency Medical Technician licensure at any level, but licensure is not required.
Earn while you learn. Cadet entrance pay, based on a 40-hour week, is $24,282 per year. After graduation, on-shift schedule is based on a 56-hour work week (24 hours on/48 hours off) at $36,027 per year. Upon completion of your first year, firefighter base pay is $37,945 per year. Monetary incentives are available to those who have or obtain NM EMT Intermediate or NM EMT Paramedic licensure.

The Las Cruces Fire Department will offer practice physical ability tests (PAT) for potential candidates on August 28th, September 11th and September 18th at 8 a.m. at Fire Station 4, 2802 East Missouri Avenue. Get a hands-on demonstration of the new PAT. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and rubber-soled shoes. Participants under the age of 18 require parental permission.
After each PAT, a workshop will be offered at 2 p.m. at City Hall, 700 N. Main Street. Workshops will summarize information about the department, the career and the hiring process.
