Las Cruces To Hold 16th Annual Trek For Trash

By Vanessa Dabovich

Las Cruces, NM – The campaign is in its 16th year and is hosted by The Keep Las Cruces Beautiful and New Mexico Clean and Beautiful programs.

The event consists of local volunteers who help collect litter at parks, schools and on area streets and business properties. The New Mexico State Aggie men's basketball team, girl and boy scouts and students from several local grade schools are set to participate.

In 2009, four hundred and ninety-two volunteers collected more than nine tons of litter during the campaign and organizers say they hope to remove at least ten tons this year.

The Trek will be on October 16th from eight in the morning until noon and locations can be requested and assigned for the event. This year volunteers will be treated to a free lunch hosted by International House of Pancakes at the Dream Center located at 1400 North 6th Street.

Currently there are around four hundred volunteers registered and there is still time to join the campaign. To volunteer individuals and groups can call 528-4723 or click on the "Keep Las Cruces Beautiful" link at CLCPD.com.
