Las Cruces To Hold "Blue Mass"

  

  Las Cruces police and fire personnel, along with several local law enforcement agencies and first responders, will participate in the annual Blue Mass to be held Sept. 29 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral.

The mass will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Oscar Cantu, bishop of the Diocese of Las Cruces, at6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina St. The Blue Mass honors those who have died in the line of duty and personnel who are currently serving as first responders.

The Blue Mass is celebrated nationwide for those employed in public safety – police officers, firefighters, 911 operators, emergency medical service personnel, correction officers and others. The color blue relates to the blue uniforms predominately used by those services.

The annual Blue Mass is non-denominational and open to anyone who wishes to celebrate.
