Las Cruces, NM – A two-day visioning workshop will allow participants to test various interactive strategies for involving citizens in developing a vision for the corridor and the city's planning process.

The City of Las Cruces is working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of Transportation to develop a "tool kit" of public participation techniques, using the El Paseo Corridor Visioning Project as a pilot project.

City staff will fine tune the results of this workshop and incorporate the ideas into a larger public visioning process slated for November of this year. That vision will eventually lead to a redevelopment plan addressing such concerns as walk ability, connectivity and multiple types of transportation, economic revitalization, affordable housing, the needs of the elderly and disabled, student interests and education, and mixed use zoning and building design.

The workshop will consist of four, three-hour sessions and an open house. Workshop days will be Friday and Saturday at the offices of the Las Cruces Realtors association at 150 East Idaho and the open house will be Friday at six thirty in the evening. To sign up as a participant or for more information call 528-3209.
