Las Cruces House Fire Displaces Two Residents; One Injured

Las Cruces firefighters extinguished a house fire late Saturday night.  The fire department responded to a residential structure fire at the 1100 block of East Mesa Avenue just before midnight Saturday.   The first arriving engine found moderate smoke coming from the eaves of the home.  Fire crews completed a search and had the fire extinguished within minutes.

Two occupants were at home at the time of the fire.  One got out on his own and the other with the help of fire crews. The Red Cross tells KRWG the residents are being assisted by the organization; disaster team volunteers assisted one client and accompanied another to the hospital for injuries suffered in the fire.

The residence suffered light fire and heavy smoke damage.  The damage estimate is not complete.  The cause and origin of the fire is still being investigated.  The fire department confirms one of the residents did receive treatment from American Medical Response and was transported to a local hospital.  No firefighter injuries were reported.
