Las Cruces Library Receives Kid-Friendly Computers

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Branigan Memorial Library has received two kid-friendly computers or Early Literacy Stations (ESL) for youth patrons.

The new computers offer 50 different educational titles for kids ages two to ten in English and Spanish. The computers are age-appropriate, engaging, and academically relevant for children. They are not connected to the Internet. The computers have a colorful keyboard and tiny mouse to promote easy learning and discovery.

Software covers seven curricular areas in reading, math, science, social studies, writing, arts and music, and reference. There is also an imaginative interface that encourages exploration.

"The stations are an invaluable resource for our toddlers to 5th grade students," says Sandra VanLandingham, children's librarian. "The kids are having fun, and many times they don't know they are learning!" The computers were purchased by the Friends of the Branigan Library.

Branigan Library is located at 200 E. Picacho. The library is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Sundays from 1 - 5 p.m..
