Thomas Branigan Memorial Library will temporarily close Monday, Aug 10, through Friday, Aug 14.

But when the library’s doors open at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 15, it will feel, look, and smell like a new library! That’s because approximately 180,000 books, 15,000 DVDs, CDs and audiobooks, along with nearly 19,500 linear feet of shelving, will have received a much needed cleaning.

The overall cleaning will include carpeting and tile throughout the building, clean and wax the computer lab and children’s craft room, plus new paint in the magazine/newspaper reading room.

According to Library Administrator Renée Payne Frankel, “Closing the library for five days will avoid any customer injuries during the cleaning and also enable library staff to perform the cleaning and inventory in the quickest, most accurate way possible.”

In addition, the library will conduct an inventory of nearly 300,000 records in its database to determine the number of lost or missing items. The inventory will also establish a baseline for tracking the library’s collection to generate more accurate reports in the future.

The book/media drop will remain open during library closure to allow customers to return library materials without incurring overdue fines.
