Las Cruces Man Accused Of Striking Girlfriend With Car

Las Cruces Police arrested a man suspected of striking his ex-girlfriend with a vehicle following an argument and physical confrontation at her home.

Manuel Benjamin Sanchez, 36, of 1530 E. Idaho Ave., is charged with one count each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery against a household member and criminal damage to property.

Las Cruces Police Detectives learned that Sanchez had gone to his ex-girlfriend’s apartment to retrieve personal items sometime Sunday morning. Once inside the apartment Sanchez became verbally abusive toward the woman and pushed her against a window, causing it to shatter.

After the two went outside, Sanchez got into his vehicle and deliberately drove toward the woman. The woman was struck by the vehicle and fell to the ground. Sanchez briefly got out of the vehicle but re-entered and drove away after the woman said she was calling the police.

Sanchez fled the area prior to police arriving on scene. The woman’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Sanchez was arrested Monday and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $15,000.
