Las Cruces Man Arrested After Attempting To Shoot Ex-Wife

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Las Cruces man Monday night after he allegedly fired two rounds from a handgun towards his former wife during a reported argument.

Gregory Kight, 58, was detained and arrested just after 6 p.m. in the 7000 block of Arco Iris, just east of Moongate Road.

After an initial investigation, deputies determined Kight and his ex-wife had been in an argument at a home in the 4000 block of Northgate. The victim allegedly told Kight she “didn’t want to be with him anymore,” which reportedly upset Kight.

The victim told deputies Kight was intoxicated and shot towards her twice with a .357 revolver. She was able to leave the scene to safety, where she called 911.

Kight reportedly went back to his residence on Arco Iris, where deputies located and detained him without incident. He was then transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he is being held without bond on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
